COLLEGE READING
This is a 45 hour individualized program based on in-depth testing and assessment of
student’s reading comprehension strengths and weaknesses as defined by the HOBET,
Emphasis is placed on identifying literal and analytical reading skills and applying them to
appropriate materials. Special emphasis will be placed on vocabulary development, textbook
reading and the analysis of electronic resources for content and accuracy.  Strategies for
academic success and  the identification of an individual learning style will be covered.

BASIC ALGEBRA
This 45 hour course will provide students with basic algebra concepts. It is intended to help
students overcome math phobia.
This course is a basic prerequisite for students entering the LPN program      Cost:    $ 445.00

GENERAL EDUCATION COURSES
COMPUTER LITERACY
This 45 hour course is designed to provide students with the computer skills, necessary to
function in our modern technology driven health care settings. MS Windows, Word, Excel and
Power Point will be used to teach operating system skills, word processing techniques and
the basics of spreadsheets and presentations. Students will learn to apply each program to
the use of Electronic Records in general and will become familiar with the EPIC program,
used by the Elliot Health Care System.      Cost includes book.            Cost:   $600.00
MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY
This course is the study of the language of medicine as it relates to the human body and its
disorders.  Medical, pharmaceutical and laboratory terminology, diagnoses, treatments, and
the diagnostic and surgical procedures associated with each system will be
covered.                                                                                                                        Cost:    $445.00
ENGLISH COMPOSITION
This course is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of writing and to
provide the opportunity to master the four standard modes of expression: description,
exposition, narration and persuasion. Emphasis will be on grammar, syntax, usage and
analytical techniques employed in process writing. In addition, students will complete a
structured research paper that will employ a thesis statement, outline, note cards, footnoting
procedures, bibliography and formatting, utilizing the APA format. Issues of plagiarism will be
presented as well.       ( includes Course CD, no other book is required)         Cost:  $505.00

HUMAN BODY IN HEALTH AND DISEASE
This course is a study of the structure and function of the human body and provides a
background upon which the student can build a working understanding of the human body in
health and disease.  Common disorders and disease processes that affect  each organ
system will be covered.  Laboratory experience is included to enhance and reinforce the
concepts presented  during the didactic part of the class. Students are expected to engage in
research and online learning on an assigned basis.  The final 8 hours of this course introduce
the student entering nursing courses to Microbiology and the implications for nursing

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT AHA CPR for HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
This 5 hour professional level course is conducted in one or two sessions.  The course
includes Adult, Infant and Child; and two person CPR; and the use of the bagvalve mask.  
American Heart Association certificate awarded at the end of the course.        Cost:   $85.00
