NURSING I
HUMAN BODY IN HEALTH AND DISEASE
This course is a study of the structure and function of the human body and provides a
background upon which the student can build a working understanding of the human body in
health and disease. Common disorders and disease processes that affect each organ
system will be covered. Laboratory experience is included to enhance and reinforce the
concepts presented during the didactic part of the class. Students are expected to engage in
research and online learning on an assigned basis. The final 8 hours of this course
introduce the student entering nursing courses to Microbiology and the implications for

PSYCHOLOGY
This course is designed to introduce students to the basic theories and principles of
psychology. The course is given to guide students toward a greater understanding of their
patients and their own capacity for growth within their future in nursing.

NUTRITION
This course provides nursing students with a basic understanding of the science of nutrition
and diet therapy. The student will learn what role nutrients serve in the body, food sources of
key nutrients and how nutrition relates to overall health and wellness. How nutrient needs
change throughout life with special emphasis on the nutritional needs of the elderly will be
covered, as well as, the rationale for diet modifications, enteral and parenteral nutrition.

HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
This course presents theories and various perspectives of the physical, cognitive, spiritual &
psychosocial progression of human growth and development from conception through
death. This course is given to integrate the theoretical and practical perspectives of human
growth and development in the delivery of health care.

NURSING II
FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING
This course provides an overview of the concepts of health and the role of the PN in health
care throughout the life span. The nursing process is presented as the foundation of
nursing practice. This course includes the knowledge of basic nursing skills, infection
control, physical assessment, promotion of musculoskeletal functioning, and wound and
dermal ulcer care. The special needs and nursing care of the elderly and the client in
rehabilitation are introduced in this course. Theory, basic nursing skills, and health
assessment are reinforced in laboratory practice and in clinical experiences in long term
care and rehabilitation settings. Medication Administration will be covered in this course
through the nursing process approach and practiced in the simulated lab setting and in the

PHARMACOLOGY
This course is designed to provide the P N student with a solid foundation of
pharmacological principles, knowledge of dose calculations and specific medication
categories. Application of this knowledge will be practiced during Fundamentals of Nursing
labs and in a supervised clinical setting. Course Cost 458.00
PROFESSIONAL ISSUES ( Legal, Ethical, Regulatory aspects of Nursing)
This course is designed to provide the Practical Nurse student with an overview of legal,
ethical and regulatory issues one may encounter in practice. It will develop a basic
understanding of federal regulations that impact all health care providers, and state
regulations. Through role-playing, students will have the opportunity to explore ethical
dilemmas and medical malpractice issues. Scope of licensure, and the responsibilities of
the Licensed Practical Nurse will be topics of discussion. Course Cost: 458.00
NURSING III
MEDICAL SURGICAL NURSING OF THE ADULT
The concepts of caring for the adult patient with medical-surgical nursing needs are
presented in this course. Care of the surgical patient and patients with specific medical
problems are addressed. The student will integrate the physiological, psychosocial,
spiritual, cultural and cognitive aspects of growth and development in laboratory practices
and clinical experiences provided to assist the student in the development of competencies
required for the care of adult patients. Course Cost: 2080.00
MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH NURSING
The concepts of caring for the childbearing woman, as well as her newborn, are presented in
this course. The focus is on pregnancy as a normal physiological process, with an
awareness of the impact of potential risks. This course is offered to provide students with the
knowledge and skills needed to care for a pregnant, parturient, and post partum woman and
her infant in a variety of settings.
The Pediatric section is designed to provide students with the knowledge necessary to work
in any setting where pediatric care is delivered—acute, sub-acute, and in the home as a
Licensed Practical Nurse. Students will become proficient in the unique needs of the

COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING
This course explores the expanding role of the Licensed Practical Nurse in Community
Health Nursing (CHN) in health promotion and disease prevention at the community level.
Students have the opportunity to explore the clinical and population focused roles of the
community health nurse in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of health problems in
populations. The concept of “community as client” is examined as the student is introduced
to nursing care of the individual, families and groups within the context and framework of the

SENIOR NURSING EXPERIENCE
The 40 hour Senior Nursing Experience allows the student to integrate and practice
previously acquired knowledge and skills in an area of special interest to the student. After
selection of a clinical interest, the student will work with a faculty advisor and a preceptor at
an advanced level within the role of the student practical nurse in the clinical setting. Career
preparation and NCLEX preparation is included in this experience.
