NURSING ESSENTIALS  This course emphasizes and assesses  the knowledge and  skills
necessary  for Licensed Nursing Assistants to advance into the Practical Nursing Program.
PN program candidates will take a written knowledge exam and  a skills assessment test to
determine the need for  a 24 hour LNA refresher  course as part of the nursing program.
One hundred and forty -five ( 145) hours will be credited to candidates who pass the
assessment with an 80% or better. Once the refresher is completed and passed then 145
hours will be credited and  transferred to the PN program                          
  
                                                                                                         
MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY  This course is the study of the language of medicine as it relates
to the human body and its disorders.  Medical, pharmaceutical and laboratory terminology,
diagnoses, treatments, and the diagnostic and surgical procedures associated with each
system will be covered.                                                                                    Course Cost: 458.00

COMPUTER LITERACY   This 45 hour course is designed to provide students with the
computer skills, necessary to function in  our modern technology driven health care settings.
MS Windows, Word, Excel and Power Point will be used to teach operating system skills,
word processing techniques and the basics of spreadsheets and presentations. Students
will learn to apply each program to the use of Electronic Records in general and will become
familiar with the EPIC program, used by the Elliot Health Care System.

Term I I

HUMAN BODY IN HEALTH AND DISEASE
This course is a study of the structure and function of the human body and provides a
background upon which the student can build a working understanding of the human body in
health and disease.  Common disorders and disease processes that affect  each organ
system will be covered.  Laboratory experience is included to enhance and reinforce the
concepts presented  during the didactic part of the class. Students are expected to engage in
research and online learning on an assigned basis. The final 8 hours of this course
introduce the student entering nursing courses to Microbiology and the implications for
nursing care.                                                                                                   Course Cost:  973.00

ENGLISH COMPOSITION
This course is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of writing and to provide
the opportunity to master the four standard modes of expression: description, exposition,
narration and persuasion. Emphasis will be on grammar, syntax, usage and analytical
techniques employed in process writing. In addition, students will complete a structured
research paper that will employ a thesis statement, outline, note cards, footnoting
procedures, bibliography and formatting, utilizing the APA format. Issues of plagiarism will be
presented as well.      CD provided in lieu of book                              Course Cost:  518.00

PSYCHOLOGY         
This course is designed to introduce students to the basic theories and principles of
psychology and sociology. The course is given to guide students toward a greater
understanding of their patients and their own capacity for growth within their future in nursing.
